spreadshirt offers customized fashion – design your own t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, bags – with your slogans, graphics, pictures or one of more then 100,000 designs from the spreadshirt community.
While working on a student consultancy project, Lukasz Gadowski came up with the idea for spreadshirt. Only one month after, the first prototype for the shop already went online.
Matthias Spieß, who founded Dotcomtod, that documented the death of Internet startups after the first Internet bubble-burst in 2000/2001, was one of spreadshirt’s first shop partners (the 7th to be exact). Matthias Spieß soon discovered the technical improvement potential of spreadshirt’s shop system. This resulted in Matthias joining Lukasz as co-founder and CTO of spreadshirt.
As shop partner number 42, Kolja Hebenstreit got to know Lukasz around the same time. While Matthias took care of the technical infrastructure, Lukasz soon encouraged Kolja to develop the global online marketing of spreadshirt. After having developed global online marketing, Kolja started to manage the endconsumer business.
Today all three of them are still involved in spreadshirt’s success: Matthias as CTO is in charge of spreadshirt’s entire system architecture and heads a team of developers and system administrators. Kolja is a board member of spreadshirt while Lukasz is the chairman of the board.
